You Don’t Know What To Do!! Ask for help…..
I went to hair salon today to get my hair cut. No major ordeal; a typical once per month trip, depending on whether I decide to do a little hair trimming in between trips, to stretch the budget into a 2 month window. All good, as they usually clean up any things I might have missed along my dollar saving adventure.
In the only other chair occupied was a mother, holding her son….WHO WAS TERRIFIED!!! The young stylist assigned the task of clipping the lads hair had a nice pleasant voice, a calm demeanor, and was really trying to make the effort fun. But, the approach was all wrong.
- “This (buzzing clipper) only tickles. You will like it once you feel it just above your ear!”
- “If you hold still, I WILL SHOW YOU how the scissors make your hair look really nice!”
- “Lot’s of kids come in here JUST LIKE YOU, and they really enjoy having their hair cut!”
The kid wasn’t buying it, and despite every promise of reward or punishment from mom, he saw right through the ruse, or at least was not convinced by anything they were saying. The effort was going to be far less than the initial 10 minute clip, and likely would be a costly failure. Mom and the Stylist needed help.
Despite the frustration (and quite frankly, the humor) of watching the ordeal, it occurred to me that something was clearly missing; approaching the boy with something that he could buy into, and something that he could witness as beneficial, engaging, and going in the right direction.
While not the expert in hair emergencies and child terror relief, Mile Marker Business and Consulting Services, LLC is the right place for asking for help in trying times, when things are problematic, and when there do not appear to be answers. Mile Marker engages you, gets you involved, discusses problems and solutions with you, and brings examples to bear that you can help develop and understand as beneficial, engaging, and going in the right direction.
Whether it is Strategic Planning, Financial Needs, Operational Efficiency and Improvement, or simply kicking the tires to see how things can be better, the Mile Marker is a great place to stop and plan.
Let’s start THAT conversation!
